I got Valorant for my son and he's complaining to me that when I cut his internet at 9:30 pm every night, it makes him AFK in Valorant and then he has to wait 10 mns when he logs back in and risks being banned. Is this really so? I've never heard of a game with such strong AFK rules. This seems over the top. Is it really so?

It is absolutely over the top. The commitment Valorant is requesting from players (even in unrated play) is completely ridiculous. My son was banned for 120 hours on competitive for afk then got an additional 180 hours ban while playing unrated because I needed the computer. This game is nonsense. I can’t wait for my son to move on to the next craze that doesn’t cost a fortune for BS knives and skins.

Yes that's really the case. I think another problem with their AFK penalties is it doesn't distinguish AFK from disconnection. 🙁 IDK how Riot will address that but I hope they will soon!
